Eat to calm your mind:

Quarantine, isolation,vaccination, immunity are all words which have now become a part of our daily vocabulary. So have words like anxiety, stress, mental health. The raging pandemic has been wreaking havoc across the world. Most of our normal lives have been thrown out of gear. We all have our own set of coping mechanisms to deal with these unnatural situations. Some pursue a long forgotten hobby, some just discovered a new one, and some are not so lucky. Not meeting with family and friends, or working from home constantly can take a toll on a person,s mental well being.

Some of the most common symptoms of anxiety include:

Eggs: Because of their high nutrient content, eggs are often referred to as nature’s multivitamin. One of the few naturally occurring sources of Vitamin D is whole eggs. They are high in vitamins,minerals,amino acids and antioxidants, all of which are required for a healthy stress response.

Blueberries: blueberries may appear small in size, but they are high in antioxidants and vitamin C,making them effective stress relievers. They help in repairing and protecting cells when we are stressed.

Nuts: high in omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin B. Almonds, pistachios, and walnuts are great for reducing blood pressure which can be caused due to high stress levels. Just grab a handful of nuts for a healthy snack.

Avocado, Oats and Asparagus: rich in B Vitamins which are known as the anti stress vitamins. Asparagus is especially full of Folate. Oats contain melatonin and tryptophan known to calm the mind and relieve stress.

Turkey and Salmon: tryptophan in Turkey and omega 3in salmon are beneficial.

Dark chocolate: many doctors prescribe a small cube of dark chocolate post dinner. This is heart healthy as well as a great stress reliever. Flavanols in chocolate help in boosting brain functions and calms the mind.

Turmeric : curcumin in turmeric aids in reducing stress and anxiety.
