Homemade Flavoured Water

Homemade Flavoured Water (3rd April 2021):

Water is life… We all know that. But, sometimes even when we love water, it may start to seem a bit boring. As a result, we start overlooking the importance of keeping our bodies properly hydrated.

Some of you might be feeling, “I don’t like the way water tastes…” Indeed, water doesn’t have a strong taste, making it easy to forget to drink, or simply dislike it.

But, have you ever considered making flavoured water at home, and experiment with different combinations? That might just be the key to keep your bodies sufficiently hydrated. So, today we are going to guide you in getting the most out of water.

The Must-Have Flavoured Water Recipes

— Lemon+ Mint/Basil

— Lemon+ Ginger+ Orange

— Apple + Berries (e.g., blueberries/blackberries)+ Plum + Sage/Mint

—Apple + Carrots + Lemon + Ginger

Each of these variations is really tasty! We can vouch for that… You can either use whatever fruits, vegetables, or spices you have at hand, or pick on your favourites. Homemade flavoured waters are indeed a cost-effective way to reduce food wastage.

They can be stored in any jar, pitcher, water bottle, or jug. In fact, any airtight container will work! You can also store such infused waters in the refrigerator for up to a week. In case the flavour is no longer present, you can simply add more infusions.

Now, let’s have a quick look at the directions below to get the best flavour out of your homemade water.

The easy three:

  • Simply add your chosen fruits and veggies to the container you are using, and take a wooden spoon to slightly muddle and smash the ingredients. And, please don’t forget to peel the skin from the citrus fruits to avoid a bitter taste!
  • Next, gently bruise the leaves of the herbs you have chosen to release the natural extracts and oils.
  • Finally, add your preferred spices to enjoy your favourite taste…

We can’t wait to see you try these recipes! Just like with packaged teas, we should be mindful of any bottled flavoured drink we buy from those stores outside. Even if plain water seems ‘boring’ to you, it’s better to avoid these unless we are familiar with the ingredients (preferably, no added syrups, sugars, artificial sweeteners, colours or preservatives, etc.). Instead, try going for homemade flavoured waters to garner the benefits of a hydrated body.

From aiding in digestion, and breaking down foods to flushing out unwanted toxins from the body— a ton of bodily processes rely on water. You might need more than 2-3 litres of water a day if you exercise and sweat a lot, or if you are eating less fluid-enriched foods.

For determining adequate amounts of daily fluid intake, you can also set a timer throughout the day for water breaks! Remember, a healthy outside starts from the inside!
