Thankful

Thankful (28th November 2020):

Why did the police arrest the turkey?

Because they suspected foul play!

Okay. That was a bad joke. But it did make us smile , didn’t it? It is important we smile, we laugh, even if it’s for a little while. 2020 has not been very kind to most of us. It is probably the strangest year of our lives. The entire world went on a shutdown mode , literally overnight. However, we all have something to be thankful for. It is essential that we realise that and find positivity to tide us over these trying times.

Let’s try the GLAD technique.

G –Grateful. One thing that we are thankful for that is relevant to what your experience today. No matter how small.

L – Learned. One fact, skill, or something good you  discovered about yourself or a friend.

A – Accomplishment – one accomplishment , anything from something incredibly small to wonderfully grand.

D- Delight – one thing that touched your heart today. Something that brought you joy or was pleasing to your senses.

We could also go on a gratitude scavenger hunt. You could do that with your children or even alone.  Being within the four walls of our homes can be emotionally very taxing. We tend to get depressed and negative thoughts cloud our minds. So why don’t we play this game.

  1. Find something that makes you happy
  2. Find one thing that you would love to smell
  3. Find one thing you enjoy looking at
  4. Find something of your favourite colour
  5. Find something you are thankful for in nature
  6. Find something that you can use to make a gift for someone
  7. Find something that is useful for you.
  8. Find something that will make someone else smile

You will see that there are so many things around you that give you joy. There are so many things to be thankful for.

This year has taught us to be thankful for the smallest things. The. Year has taught us not to take anything for granted. So let’s make a Gratitude Jar. Starting January 2021. Write all the good things that happen to you on  little pieces of paper . Surprise gifts, accomplished goals, the beauty of nature, funny moments, memories worth sharing, daily blessings, new skills learnt, new friends made. Put all these notes in a jar. Try to do it on a regular basis. At the end of the day think of the good things which has happened and write it down. Then on the ,31 st of December 2021, open the jar and read all the wonderful and amazing things that have happened to you in just one year. Enjoy the little things in life for oneday . You will look back and realise they were the big things.

Each day let’s be thankful for night’s that turned into mornings, friends that turned into family, dreams that turned into reality, and likes that turned into love.
