Devil’s Claw gets its name form the appearance of its fruit which is covered with hooks meant to attach onto animals in order to spread the seeds.  The medicine is derived from its roots and tubers.  The benefits of Devil’s Claw is as an anti-inflammatory and as an analgesic.  In ancient medicine, it was commonly used to cure and relieve rheumatic conditions in the joints, ligaments, tendons, bones and muscles.  White Willow bark is believed to possess pain relieving properties and is often referred to as a natural aspirin.  In western herbal medicine it was used to soften the blow of muscle pain, menstrual pain, pain from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and spinal spondylitis.  Black cohosh was used in Eastern parts of North America for the treatment of menstrual irregularities and to ease childbirth.
